Imagine if you will… Five brave volunteer performers are handed a mysterious radio-play script, a box of props, and are told the show starts in five minutes. Will they be able to pull it off as written? Or will the evening descend into improv-esque chaos?
Join us at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Yellow Dog Coffee (222 S. Porter Avenue, Norman, OK) for this one-night-only participatory theatrical experiment. Make sure to arrive early to grab drinks and eats before the show!
What should I wear for this show?
Wear whatever you would wear to a coffee shop. No need to be dressed up, but you can if you want.
What are the audience interactive elements?
Before the show starts, we’ll have a table with sheets of paper for those interested in sharing a wacky adventure they experienced, which the cast will randomly share at specific moments in the show. Also, inspired by classic radio shows, one of the cast members will have a whiteboard on which they will write sound effects cues for the audience to make.
Can blind/low-vision individuals enjoy the show?
Yes, as an audio drama show, the cast will remain seated. There are only a few visual elements, and one of the characters is a narrator.
Do I need a ticket?
Thanks to Yellow Dog Coffee and the Norman Arts Council, admission is free. Seating is first come, first serve, so arrive early.
Will this performance be live-streamed?
Yes, the Anomaly Radio show will be broadcast on The Show Starts Now’s YouTube channel for those unable to attend or with sensory concerns. An edited version with closed captions will be made on The Show Starts Now at a later date.
Is this show family-friendly?
Yes, although with the nature of improv, we are putting a PG-13 rating on the show. In other words, if you enjoy Doctor Who and Star Trek, you’ll enjoy this show.
Will there be an intermission?
The runtime of the show will be between 45-60 minutes, so there will not be an intermission. Coffee service will be suspended during the performance (espresso machines are loud), so make sure to order your drinks beforehand!
